Nespresso Alternatives?

Postby ginga » 12 Mar 2015, 13:59

Hi there!
I have a Nespresso machine at work, which is very nice, but I kind of want to save on the capsules. I've seen lots of alternatives on the market, some are really cheap if compared to the original. The problem is that I've tried one some time ago (can't remember the name unfortunately!) and it was .. well.. not to say awfull.. more like brown coffee-flavored water than coffee, really.
Does anyone know what alternatives are really good ?
Or are they all crap? .. :|

Hi ginga

Don't worry, there are some good ones :) The one that I like and buy for myself is Gourmesso ristretto.
I like this one because it is intense, wakes me up efficiently and is generally very pleasant to drink.
I think the brand is German, which often means good quality :)
Good value for the money

Don't know much about the brands, but the criteria that I tend to use is select by highest intensity, since cheaper Nespresso machines make coffee a bit watery. When you get a stronger coffee, it will have a better taste no matter who is the manufacturer.
Gourmesso by the way have a couple of varieties with intensity 10, which is rare, so I would opt for those.

Thank you guys for your replies! I've selected Gourmesso Lungo Italico Forte, because it's lungo and because it has maximal intensity (as fatBen recommended) :)
Will report how good it is when I get it in the mail :)

I did like their selection by the way. There is what to choose from. They carry lots of verieties including flavored coffees and even Fairtrade. That is nice :)
If I like my experimental box, I will do tasting of the others for sure! :)

I can say, stay away from spressoluxe. First, it is NOT compatible with all Nespresso machines. Second, if you do manage to make yourself a cup of coffee, it will most likely go to the sink after the very first sip.

So, reporting back stright after trying my first cup of Gourmesso!
This is a very decent coffee indeed. Good taste and flavor and it worked well for our Nespresso machine.
Nespresso offers more creaminess imho, but this is a good value for the price.
Thanks everybody for your replies! I will definitely buy more of these :)

I just bought some pods from http://www.cafeliegeois.usThey're compatible with my Cizit ( and all original lines machines, I think)
It ended up being around .56 a pod, which helps.
