Coffee and your teeth

Postby JavaJunkie » 26 Feb 2011, 19:41

As much as we don't like to think of it; coffee does stain teeth eventually. Any tips or tricks on how to keep that to a minimum? No way am I giving up coffee for it, but I don't want brown teeth either.

I'm in my sixties with all of my own teeth and have drunk coffee all of my adult life. I use a good toothpaste and an occasional, very expensive, cosmetic whitening one and this keeps my teeth shining. :d

I have drank coffee for years and my dentist keeps telling me that my teeth are really white. I think they aren't as white as they could be. I may do a whitening treatment down the road.

I think it varies in people and you know some people have stained or decaying teeth, where as others have white teeth that are really healthy. It may not have anything to do with coffee I really don't know.

I think that if you brush your teeth regularly, it shouldn't really be a problem. If you drink a lot of coffee and don't brush often enough then it could affect your tooth color. On the other hand, I know people who HATE coffee, but still have discolored teeth. :-?

Well, thank you so much. I'm encouraged now. I guess my java addiction is well worth investing in a good toothbrush for. :ymparty:

I can't imagine my mornings without coffee, so I'd rather step up my efforts to keep my teeth as white and healthy as possible than eliminating coffee from my diet. :)) I think good oral hygiene and a little help from some special tooth whitening products (such as whitening strips) can address the coffee stain issue.

I just brush my teeth with a whitening toothpaste and this does the trick for me!

Poor hygiene can also cause coffee-stained teeth. Everyone should brush at least two times per day--in the morning and night--and ideally in the middle of the day, as well. To stop further staining, consider brushing your teeth after drinking coffee. The fluoride in toothpaste mineralizes enamel, strengthening it and halting stains. If this is impossible, drink water to rinse the mouth or chew a stick of gum to trigger saliva production.

Well, I really worry about me teeth from time to time, that's why I decided I should minimize my daily ration - from 10 cups to 8 :ymblushing:

It all depends on your oral hygiene. If you have the habit of brushing your teeth every after meals then you can enjoy coffee as much as you want to.

I agree with MoffeeCoff. You book an appointment with a dental hygienist and your stains go away :)
