Decafffeination

Postby peter » 14 Jul 2010, 02:47

I have read the new articles on www.coffee4dummies.com about decaffeination and became interested: what if I could it myself? For example, the Swiss Water Process is easy to apply at home. If it is possible to buy this "green coffee extract (GCE)”, then I can really try decaffeinate my coffee! What do you think about this?

Well, I think: Good Luck and Go Ahead! But I also think is that it would be much easier and cheaper to buy an already decaffeinated product and let professionals do their business! Just my 2 cents ;)

I agree with lulu33 - procure decaf coffee in the nearest store and don't store your mind with trivial things :d

I shudder at the thought of taking the caffeine out of coffee! It would be like chocolate without sugar or pancakes missing the syrup! I do understand that some people need to avoid the real thing for various reasons and in that case I would agree it is easier to buy it in the store. Fun experiment though. ~o)

There is no harm with home-made decaffeinated coffee. However, I would go with lulu and the rest that wants this type of coffee being bought but I like coffees just the way they are.

Decaffeinated coffee is no longer actually coffee. It's a liquid that has some coffee flavoring. Caffeine has a strong, bitter taste adding to the flavor of coffee. For those whose systems have adverse reactions to coffee, maybe try St. John's Wort tea later in the day or Vervain. Something with a calming effect. ;;)

Peter, I'm curious to know how it went :)
If I were drinking decaffeinated coffee, I would probably try that also. Just to see the result. But only once :) Not on a regular basis :)

I am going to have to agree with some of the others. In my world it is a mortal sin to take the caffeine out of coffee. I shudder and shiver just thinking about it!

I think it would be a fun experiment! I'm not sure how you would know if you were successful, though. Does it include instructions to test how much caffeine exists in the liquid before and after the process?
