Coffee and your electricity bill

I just had an energy audit and discovered that my coffee machine costs me about $10 a year in electricity to run! Do you know how much yours costs?

I have no idea how much our coffee pot costs us to run it, but I'm hoping it would be less than a regular maker because it doesn't have a hot plate. Ours just brews the coffee into a carafe and it keeps it hot for us. It wouldn't matter if it didn't keep it hot because we drink it so fast anyway.

I asked the guy who did the audit about that. Mine cost what it did because they used the machine plus the amount of time I keep the hotplate on through the months. So your right, yours would use less energy.

$10 a year is a bargain really, compared to the cost of buying it from a coffee shop. I use gas to heat water for mine, (I usually use a coffee press), and I don't have any idea what I spend on this vice. Probably quite a lot though!

Good point. How many Starbucks can ya get for $10? I'm sure my bill isn't very high as I make it, pour it into a huge mug, then turn the thing off. I'd imagine leaving it on would jack up the bill as they keep a whole pot warm so it takes a lot of warmth to do that.

I don't think $10 a year is too much for a coffee machine, they often consume much more than that, so you're a happy guy here.

It doesn't bother me since I use an energy conserving coffee maker.
