Horrible Scenario Suggested by Bernard Jensen, Mark Anderson

Postby Vulcanit » 03 Jun 2011, 06:42

I have just read 'Empty Harvest: Understanding the Link Between Our Food, Our Immunity and Our Planet' by Bernard Jensen and Mark Anderson and there was one fragment about coffee that simply terrified me. The authors say that the progenitor of all coffee bean trees is from Ethiopia and if the last of these trees died from neglect, the hybrid species would become the ultimate source of coffee beans. But if the coffee bean trees around the world were then killed by a species-specific disease, there would be no original seed to fall back upon. Then, coffee bean trees - not to mention coffee breaks - would become extinct. Finally, the authors say that "coffee is not a matter of life and death" though I don't agree.

What do you think of this scenario?

Please don't believe all these phrases starting with "IF" :-S If only you or I were some kind of foretellers, we would definitely see how it goes in the future but let's believe everything will be alright, and scientists would find a way to protect coffee trees from dying out and extermination. =;

If and when... let's hope this happens only in author's imagination and never in real life ;)

I think it's nothing more than an invention of these authors. I believe in our scientists. I am sure that they will think of something before the coffee dies. :d
