Going bad?

Postby frenchvanilla » 15 Dec 2010, 08:19

How long can you keep a container of ground coffee around? I went to my friends house yesterday and her coffee tasted horrible. She said she rarely makes coffee and so it has probably been open for a few months. ~o)

Eek, yes, it was probably bad. Once you grind your coffee, you're supposed to use it within a week or two. That's why I like to grind my own. ~o)

I really didn't think that coffee had an 'expiring' time. When I get the big cans of coffee, I end up finishing it up after a little over a month and I never tasted a difference before. Thanks for the information!

Thanks I had no idea that coffee had such a short time frame when ground. I will advise my friend to invest in a grinder and buy whole beans to make sure she serves fresh coffee.

Maybe, the coffee was horrible from the very beginning?

Of course, it shouldn't be open for so long, or they should keep it in proper conditions. It seems that it became stale, that's why it had an awful taste.

Where does she store it? It should be kept in a dark dry place.

No more than a month, and then it gets stale and should be thrown away or into your garden.

Wasn't there an expiry date on the container?
