Coughs and Coffee

Do you think that when you drink coffee and you have a cold it actually helps you get rid of some of the congestion? I know it seems like sometimes I breath better after I have my coffee. Do you think coffee affects it either way?

I think it is very possible, since steam is known to be helpful and coffee definitely has steam. I'm not sure if the coffee itself (beside the steam) has any effect, though.

I've never read anything to the effect that coffee itself can aid congestion, in fact I would think it to be the opposite as caffeine dehydrates you I believe. Still, if it makes you feel better, go for it!

I have to agree with Chocaloca. I don't think there's an scientific evidence. Also, what you put in your coffee could make things worse. Remember that dairy products create mucus in your sinuses. Unfortunately, it may compound the problem.

I guess it's the warmth that it brings to your mouth and not the coffee itself. But who knows?? :-)

I think simply drinking coffee helps us struggle with a lot of diseases and a bad mood. Does it affect our health? I seriously doubt it. :-\

I don't think that coffee is responsible for the relief after you get cold, I think it's the warm water that makes you feel better. But I still love coffee and I think that it is the best drink ever! ~o) :d
