Does it keep you awake?

When I was studying for the board exam, I stayed with a colleague at the dorm (we shared the same room). I could not sleep properly because my friend was awake and she was trying to finish the chapter of the book. I asked her what made her stay awake, she said she drank a cup of coffee. Does coffee keep you awake?

It doesn't have that effect on me at all, though I often drink it through the day and tell myself it is for energy! I do have a lot of friends who suffer with insomnia if they drink coffee anytime after noon though. (Sometimes I think they bring it on themselves because they are brainwashed into thinking caffeine equals sleeplessness :YMDEVIL: )

No, it never keeps me awake. But that because I tend to drink mild coffee more than strong ones and never drink coffee before going to bed.

It totally depends for me. Sometimes I can have coffee at 4 p.m. and sleep like a baby. Other times, I have coffee around 2 or 3 p.m. and toss and turn all night. :-S

No, coffee doesn't keep me awake, any more than a carbonated beverage does. I've drank so much coffee and so much Mountain Dew that I think I'm immune to it. As a matter of fact, I can't go to sleep at night until I've had a Mountain Dew. Funny, isn't it?

I don't know but coffee will make me sleepy when I take too much of it. Maybe it's because of the sugar I put in it. If I need to really wake up then I will do some exercise.

Coffee never keeps me awake, which is funny because I usually end up having a cup or two before bed for that very purpose. If anything it makes me pass out faster. I know it gives energy, but at the same time, when you're cozy in your bed, sipping a cup of coffee, you just wanna sleep and sleep some more.

Hey me too! I am glad to hear that I am not the only one. I think I would have to go cold turkey on coffee for a year before my tolerance went back down.

Coffee is definitely a stimulant. As for me personally, I think coffee drives you to do more things, to get more out of life. I think this was the case for your friend as well.
