Have you ever considered quitting or cutting back?

Sometimes a friend of mine who doesn't drink coffee regularly makes the obvious point to me that I'm basically addicted to caffeine. I don't care too much since I don't think it's the worst thing in the world to be addicted to, but I find it to be an interesting subject. I've cut back my coffee intake several times in my life, but quitting completely has never crossed my mind. Have you ever tried to quit or cut back? Cutting back is hard enough, I can't imagine trying to quit cold turkey.

I've never thought of quitting. I just can't imagine a day without coffee. And besides, 2-3 cups a day is already enough to make me alive and kicking. From what I've heard, 2-3 cups a day puts you in the moderate coffee drinker category. Got to do some more research on that though! :-)

HCafe, I think you're right, and I'm basically in that category right now too. I see co-workers who drink coffee all day, and I used to be like that, but these days I believe much more in moderation. A couple cups of coffee in the morning and afternoon seems to do the trick, just like a glass or two of wine with dinner is plenty too. I guess I'm getting older, but it works for me. ;)

Sometimes I worry about being addicted to caffeine (and I definitely am, I get the withdrawal headaches and everything) but, like you, George, I don't think it's the worst thing to be addicted to and so I don't worry about it overly much. Plus I only drink one cup a day (two if I'm desperate for energy), so it's surely not THAT big of a deal. \m/

I do sometimes think I drink too much but I haven't seriously tried to cut back or quit. I am sure that one day someone official will declare caffeine as evil as cigarettes, forcing me to locate underground sources and secret societies!

I think it's not as necessary to quit drinking coffee unless you're consuming more than 800 or 1000 MG a day, and that's about 7 - 9 cups. I do think it is a good idea to take a look though if you use lots of sweetener and other fattening things in your coffee.
