Haha, when I first read your post I was thinking the book was about something like "being a Starbucks barista," and how interesting would that actually be? (Answer: not very.) It's much more interesting to read about career waitresses in coffee shops and diners! I may have to check this book out soon.

That does look like a great book, I hope I get a chance to read it sometime. Actually, I bet being a Starbucks barista or working a similar type of job would be interesting, but I agree with MaCoffee that this looks even better. It almost makes me think of what it would be like to work as a bartender, in terms of the psychological aspect of relating to customers.

I'm happy to hear that others find this fascinating. If someone writes a book about being in the 'Starbucks family' it would be good to compare them. I imagine it would be like chalk and cheese!

I've always thought coffee shop culture is pretty interesting, but you should look into coffee houses during the Enlightenment. It's surprising what a crucial role coffee has played in history... it kept some of our greatest thinks awake and stimulated collaboration.
